The 2023 NBA Draft will remain in the history of Belgian basketball and in the memories of 23-year-old Toumani Camara. The 23-year-old from Brussels is in the NBA! “It’s really incredible to live moments like that, I’ve dreamed of them since I was very young”, explains the young man from Brussels from New York. “I still can’t figure it out: climb those steps, go to the podium, take the cap… it’s inexplicable”. And yet it is real for “Toum”, who became the second Belgian to be drafted in the NBA after Axel Hervelle, selected in 2005 by the Denver Nuggets with the… 52nd choice as well. If Hervelle has never set foot on the NBA courts, Toumani Camara could be the second Belgian to play in the big league after Didier Mbenga, double NBA champion with the Lakers (2009 and 2010), but never drafted.
