Successful start for Dominic Thiem at the Challenger tournament in Heilbronn: The US Open winner of 2020 won in round one against the Japanese Kaichi Uchida 6: 4 and 6: 4 and is thus in the round of 16 in Baden-Württemberg.

Thiem, who had accepted a wildcard for the clay court event in Heilbronn after his first round at the French Open, never left any doubts about the outcome of the match against Uchida. The 29-year-old meets Pedro Martinez in the round of 16 on Thursday.

The tournament’s number one has meanwhile already been eliminated: Marco Cecchinato was beaten by the Australian qualifier Akira Santillan 5:7 and 3:6 on Tuesday.
