A group of football-playing students from Sint-Michielscollege in Brasschaat have been conquering social media since yesterday afternoon. The international football site 433 posted a video of the boys on their Instagram account, which has 65 million followers. “In a few hours, the video was viewed 3.5 million times. Crazy, hey!”

The video, which immediately went viral, may well be there. The 15-year-old Tristan gives a flawless cross for the goal, whereupon the 15-year-old Maikel Verhagen suddenly comes into the picture on a bicycle… and heads in the ball. The defense and the keeper stand by and watch.
“Whether we had to practice often?” Maikel laughs. “No. We tried five times and four times I was able to head in. But that was thanks to Tristan’s crosses, which were just perfect. Tristan played football at Antwerp and Osssmi. I myself play at Kapellen.”
Maikel sent the video to 433.nl, an Instagram account that is popular with young footballers. “They thought it was a nice video and immediately posted it. In no time we received 200,000 likes and the video was viewed more than a million times. That was apparently the signal for the large, international 433 to also pick up the video. In one hour we also achieved 200,000 likes and millions of views there. Crazy, hey.”
The video was recorded last Friday on the sports grounds of the Peerdsbos in Brasschaat. “I’m at Sint-Michielscollege and we are currently in full exams. On Friday after the exam we went to play football with a group to let off steam. Are we still going to record videos? Who knows.” (red)
