France’s Victor Wembanyama Withdraws from 2023 World Cup for NBA Development

France will go to the 2023 World Cup, which will be held between the venues of Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines, without Victor Wembanyama. The number of the last draft, in which he was selected by the San Antonio Spurs, has been confirmed in an interview with The Teamin which he explains the reasons that led him to make this decision.

“It would not be realistic in terms of development and it would not be prudent in terms of health. I hope people understand. It’s frustrating for me too. The French team continues to be essential for me. I want to win as many titles as possible with the team. But I think it’s a necessary sacrifice,” he points out.

Questioned to what extent the Texas organization has had an influence on his decision, the French player explains that it is a personal determination. “It has been a difficult decision and it is irrevocable. The Spurs would have supported me whatever my choice would have been, “he says.

The young Spurs player believes it is time to prepare for his career without distractions. At just 19 years old, on the eve of his NBA debut and with the 2024 Paris Olympics on the horizon, he chooses to reduce the load in order to be able to work on his progression on the parquet floor.
