For Simone Glenz it was the 5th participation in a European Championship. In all fights, she clearly asserted her grip and her opponents under pressure. Her standing techniques with transition to ground fighting were always successful. In the ground she didn’t give the women a chance and ended all fights prematurely with a hold. She became European Champion for the 4th time.
Franziska Walther started focused and combative in her first European Championship. In the semifinals she met a Croatian who was able to assert a very dominant grip and technique. This left her behind with Waza-ari, which she was unable to catch up despite beautiful technical approaches. In the small final she faced a fighter from Austria. Franziska Walther dominated this fight from the start. She took the lead with a great footwork and finished with a hold. She won bronze at her first European Championships.
Anne Heiderich returned to competition after a long injury break. She was dealing with fighters from Italy, with whom she could keep up well and implemented everything that coach Wolfgang Löffler instructed. After exciting fights, she also won bronze.
Michael Traus from Bad Belzig starts for Berlin. He also won bronze.
Yevgeny Buchbinder won two fights and ended up seventh.
Henning Sudau won his opening bout after a bye and then lost the pool final. He ended up ninth.
On the last day our athletes started in the team competitions.
Franziska Walther became European champion with her team Ü30 after early victories against Great Britain and Italy.
Michael Traus also won the European Championship title with his team.
Ankes Heidrich won bronze with the women’s team over 50 after strong fights.
The team could also rely on Simone Glenz, she secured all the points that were possible against Italy and Finland. In the end, her team only took the thankless 4th place.
