Blows of fate that have punctuated his journey, Maud Lefort knew how to derive growing strength from it. To the point that at 17, the badminton playerUs Ézanville-Écouen (USEEE, Val d’Oise) is already a candidate for qualification for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
The Creps resident of Chatenay-Malabry saw his life change dramatically at the age of 7 ans. A chute during a sporting activity caused him a large displacement of elbow. This accident forever limited the rotation, pronation and supination of his left forearm. The sportswoman of Mareil-en-France then had to resolve to abandon the gym and the football for another discipline.

“We steered her towards a sport where she could progress despite her weakened arm. Badminton took over. Determined, fast and at ease in the forehand, Maud has competed with the able-bodied since she has twice reached the quarter-finals in doubles and the round of 16 in singles of the French Youth Championships, even playing several National matches. 1 with the USEE first team”, says his dad, Cyrille.
The possibility of evolving in disabled sport at an international level only became clear in 2021. But here again, the young Valdoisienne had to show resilience.
Sa classification en category Su5essential to participate in high-level tournaments against other bad players limited in the movement of an arm, was initially refused on the pretext that she had a mobility of the shoulder.
“It took the efforts ofElisa Singer (CTN) to redo a new file oriented from a new angle so that she obtains it in 2022 in Peru, ”recalls her father.

6th in the world in singles
Since then, in six months, the Valdoisienne has climbed to 6th place in the world in her category in singles. She was a finalist in the tournament Vitoria (Spain- after success against the Japanese Kameyama (No. 3 worldwide) and Italian Efomo De Marco (n° 6) – then from Sao Paulo (Brazil) after a victory in two sets against the world champion Manisha Ramadass before losing in the quarter-finals in Bahrain against the Olympic champion Yang Qiuxia.
“To qualify for the Games, Maud will have to enter the world top 3 in singles and/or rise among the very best in mixed doubles with Mathieu Thomas. His adventure has only just begun,” concludes his father Cyrille Lefort.
