It’s the start of a new era at Standard de Liège. Carl Hoefkens, the coach, held his first training session on Thursday afternoon.
The opportunity for Hoefkens to probe the state of motivation of his new group of players. The former Club Brugge also gave the temperature to the press on Thursday.
“It’s always special a first training session but I’m very happy with my players. I’ve seen a lot of intensity and that’s something I appreciate,” Hoefkens said, in remarks relayed by the RTBF.
The Liège group therefore seems ready to prepare in the best conditions for next season, a few weeks after the shock of Ronny Deila’s departure. The players are hungry and that’s a good sign. From now on, we will work on the technical, tactical and physical aspects, but above all there is the desire. And believe me, all players want it. For me, that’s the most important thing right now.”
The coach is aware that his group can still change by the end of the transfer window. “It’s obvious, although I’m happy with the team and the players I have at my disposal. That said, reinforcements should still arrive and then I’m also waiting for the return of my internationals. The team will be anyway competitive, there’s no doubt for me,” he said.
