“LVS/Sportland Cup” will have six stages this year, and the penultimate one will take place in Jelgava. The competition will take place in two age groups: U-16 (born in 2008-2009) and adults (born in 2007 and older). The number and composition of participants will be known after June 5, when the application will be closed.
U-16 athletes will compete in 200 meters, 800 meters, 300 meters hurdles, pole vault, long jump, shot put and 100/110 meters hurdles. Adults will also compete in the 3000-meter run, 400-meter hurdles, 4×100-meter relay, high jump, discus throw, and javelin throw, in addition to the already mentioned disciplines.
“LVS/Sportland Cup” 1.-3. place winners in each discipline in both the adult and U-16 groups will be awarded with a cup, and the winners will receive another prize. The owners of the highest results of the competition – one man and one woman in the adult group – will also be awarded. Jelgava Championship 1st-3rd. place winners in the adult group will be awarded with medals and prizes, in the U-16 group – with prizes. Also, the owners of the highest result among Jelgava athletes – one man and one woman in the adult group – will be awarded. U. Samson’s prize is won in discus throwing for adults, so one man and one woman with the absolute highest result in discus throwing will receive the prize. Last year, the prize in the women’s competition was won by Jelgava Athletics Club representative Dace Šteinerte (pictured). Athletes who set a Latvian or Jelgava record will receive a cash prize.
The competition is organized by the Latvian Athletics Union in cooperation with Jelgava municipal institution “Sporta servis centrs”, Jelgava Children and Youth Sports School and Jelgava Athletics Club.
