Nick Cassidy wins in Portland in Formula E, Nato 9th, Vergne out of the points

Nick Cassidy and Jake Dennis are the two men in form of the moment in Formula E. They proved it again overnight from Saturday to Sunday on the American track – brand new to the Championship – in Portland, a road circuit also used by the Indycar. After a breathtaking final between the three drivers who made it to the podium, Cassidy (Envision) managed to snatch his third victory in the last five races (after Berlin 2 and Monaco).

Behind him, Jake Dennis places his Avalanche-Andretti on the podium for the fifth race in a row. His consistency was rewarded as he took the lead in the Championship. The Briton, who was one point ahead of Pascal Wehrlein (8th in Portland) before going to the United States, now has … a point ahead of Cassidy. Antonio Felix Da Costa (Porsche) completed the podium just ahead of one of the four title contenders, Max Evans (Jaguar), who set the fastest lap in the race.

Norman Nato saves two points for Nissan

For Jean-Éric Vergne, on the other hand, the chances of obtaining a third title in Formula E have almost all vanished since he is now 57 points behind with 4 races to go. The DS-Techeetah driver could not do better than 11th, just outside the points, after being forced to start from the pits. His team was hit with a penalty for having used, a little earlier in the weekend, an electronic tool which reads the barcodes of tyres, placed in the pits and which can potentially give information on other cars, which is illegal in FE. Stoffel Vandoorne, who suffered the same punishment, took 12th place.

The two French Nissan drivers will once again have regrets after their E-Prix. Qualified in second position, Sacha Fenestraz suffered a collision at the start of the race which forced him to change front wing. He finishes 15th. Qualifying just behind his teammate, Norman Nato managed to save two points with ninth place and his fourth top 10 of the season.

The Championship will now conclude with two two-race weekends on tracks well known to all the teams, in Rome (July 15 and 16) then in London (July 29 and 30).
