Prizmic already established on the Challenger Tour
Even before the tournament, Dino Prizmic was in high demand among the juniors. At the end of last year, the 17-year-old won three ITF tournaments in a row in Monastir and is already in the top 300 in the world rankings. In Austria, the Croatian recently competed in the Challenger tournament in Mauthausen, where after two wins he only had to bow to Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals.
On the way to the final, Prizmic only had to drop a set against 15-year-old Czech Maxim Mrva. In the final against the Bolivian Juan Carlos Prado Angelo, who was in 8th place, the number 3 on the seed list lived up to his role as favorite and won 6:1, 6:4 in 84 minutes.
Korneeva with second consecutive Grand Slam title
Alina Korneeva was undoubtedly one of the absolute top favourites. The 15-year-old Russian defeated her compatriot Mirra Andreeva in the final of the Australian Open’s junior competition in January in an epic match after 3:18 hours of play. While Andreeva is on everyone’s lips with her successes on the WTA tour, Korneeva has already won the women’s title at an ITF W60 tournament from the qualification and is about to make it into the top 300.
Korneeva had to overcome her biggest hurdle in the first round when she had to fend off a match point against the German Ella Seidel in the second set. After this victory she was unstoppable and didn’t drop a set in the entire course of the tournament. In the final, the No. 3 of the tournament defeated the sixth-led Peruvian Lucciana Perez Alcaron 7:6 (4), 6:3 after 1:36 hours.
