“Recovering number one before Wimbledon gives you extra motivation”

MADRID, 25 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz confessed his joy and rush after winning the Queen’s tournament (United Kingdom) this Sunday, in his first participation and his first victory on grass to also recover the number one in the world, which gives him “an extra of motivation” ahead of the Wimbledon tournament.

“It means a lot to me. Being able to win such an incredible tournament in my first participation is fantastic. Knowing that I am capable of playing at a good level on grass is positive, winning any tournament is special”, said the Murcian after winning in the final to Australian Alex de Minaur (6-4, 6-4).

Alcaraz recovered the number one in the world in his heads-up with the Serbian Novak Djokovic in the prelude to the third ‘Grand Slam’ of the season. The London grass showed a perfect adaptation of the Spanish to this surface, despite it being his third tournament on grass, and another step forward in a short but successful career.

“The options don’t change too much. Novak is coming to play Wimbledon. Now I feel better than at the beginning of the week, that’s obvious. Of course, regaining number one before Wimbledon gives you extra motivation. But it doesn’t change in excess to play in Wimbledon as one or as two,” he concluded.
