Sebastián Sancho Makes History with First Costa Rican Medal at Central American and Caribbean Games

A well-known name in national judo gave Costa Rica its first medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games, which are held in El Salvador.

The judoka Sebastián Sancho, coming from a family with a long tradition in this sport, brought the first joy by defeating the Mexican Arath Suárez and securing bronze in the 60-kilo category.

The Tico wanted more and this was demonstrated in the fight against the Venezuelan Iván Salas, with whom he lost, but from the stands the public present in the venue let Sancho know that he was up for more.

“For me, it is a huge joy, I wanted this medal, I want there to be more medals. Costa Rica deserves it; I want to be an example for the youth”, assured the Costa Rican.

Sancho defeated Luis Montes from Nicaragua in the first match, then defeated Johan Rojas from Colombia, lost to Salas and finally defeated Suárez.

In addition to that first medal for Costa Rica, on the Saturday date of the regional fairs there were successes in the discipline of racquetball.

Sebastián is the brother of Ian Sancho, who represented the country in this same discipline at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games. Now, Sebas is fighting to reach the 2024 Paris Games.
