The Coaticook Rocket scores a double in Laval

BASEBALL. The Rocket South Shore of Coaticook won twice, Sunday (June 4), when they defeated the Pirates 440 Chevrolet of Laval, 6-4 and 5-4.

Coaticook led 2-0 after three innings in Game 1, before seeing Laval score four runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-2 lead. The score held until the seventh

In the seventh inning, Coaticook scored four runs that suddenly gave them a two-run lead, a lead that held until the end of the game. Zac Fréchette first hit a sacrifice fly, then Jason Bégin slammed a three-run homer that sent him, Loic Jolicoeur-Pomerleau and Pierre-Olivier Perreault to the plate.

Alexandre Primeau (2-1) got the win by pitching a complete game for the Rocket, his fifth career on the league. He gave up seven hits and four earned runs, striking out seven batters.

For Laval, Jacob Angell went there with his first career long ball in the circuit, a solo slap. It was starter Pierre-Olivier Allard (1-2) who took the loss, giving up six earned runs on nine hits in six and a third innings.

In game two, Coaticook took the lead early in the game, scoring three runs in the first two innings. Laval closed the gap to 3-2 late in the fourth, but Coaticook again scored two points at the start of the fifth. Laval again scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but couldn’t score the other run afterwards that would have tied the game.

After hitting a home run in the first game, Jason Bégin added a second in the second game of the doubles, adding two more RBIs to his total. On the Laval side, it was William-Alexander Ager who homered, his first of the season, producing two runs.

The win goes to Mathys Ayotte (2-0), who pitched four innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits. Francis Gagné (VP-1) for his part threw three innings in relief and protected the victory for his team. For Laval, it was Alexis Lessard (0-1) who pitched four and two-thirds innings, who was charged on the backhand.

The Rocket will play its next game on Thursday (June 8), when it will receive a visit from the Ducs de Longueuil, at the Julien-Morin stadium, starting at 8 p.m.
