BARCELONA, 20 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The successes of Spanish cycling in the Tour de France will be exhibited on a Renfe Alvia train that covers the Madrid-Bilbao line through a selection of photographs that commemorates the Spanish Tour champions, and those who climbed to the final podium, in the framework of the 120th anniversary of the gala round and the departure, this year, from Bilbao.
“Renfe exhibits a selection of photographs from the world of cycling inside an Alvia Madrid-Bilbao train on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the birth of the Tour de France and which this year begins in Bilbao,” Renfe said in a statement.
The show, entitled ‘Eternal Champions, Dreams Come True’ is a tribute to the 7 Spanish cyclists who have won the French competition and the 11 cyclists who have been on the podium since the start of the event.
With this exhibition, which coincides with the future launch of AVE services in France, Renfe wants to pay tribute to the cyclists who have won the Tour throughout history: Federico Martín Bahamontes (1959), Luis Ocaña (1973) , Pedro Delgado (1988), Miguel Induráin (1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995), Óscar Pereiro (2006), Carlos Sastre (2008) and Alberto Contador (2007 and 2009).
But also to those who managed to get on the podium during these years: Bernardo Ruiz (third in 1952), Bahamontes (who was second in 1963 and third in 1964), José Pérez Francés (third in 1963), Julio Jiménez (second in 1967) , José Manuel Fuente (third in 1973), Vicente López-Carril (third in 1974), Ángel Arroyo (second in 1983), Fernando Escartín (third in 1999), Joseba Beloki (third in 2000 and 2001 and second in 2002) , Samuel Sánchez (second in 2010), Purito Rodríguez (third in 2013) and Alejandro Valverde (third in 2015).
With this photographic selection, which shows the effort, sportsmanship and many historical moments of Spanish cycling in the Tour de France, Renfe once again becomes the sports train. The exhibition will remain active during the months of June and July and will feature a collection of 120 black and white and full color photographs located at strategic points inside the cars.
The exhibition began its tour this morning aboard an Alvia Madrid-Bilbao train. This train will also carry out the Madrid-Irún, Bilbao-Barcelona, Madrid-Huelva and Barcelona-Cádiz routes.
In the exhibition, the images are not recorded, nor are they static, but rather take on a life of their own when contemplating each one of them inside the trains. The trains are thus transformed into a new concept of space for the exhibition of photographs and works of art.
