Titan submarine: human remains found among rescued rubble – El Sol de México

Experts have found “presumptive human remains” among the fragments recovered from the tourist submersible that disappeared with five people on board in the North Atlantic near the wreck of the Titanic, the US Coast Guard said in a statement on Wednesday.

These remains and those of the ship will be analyzed, which could provide “crucial elements to understand the cause of this tragedy,” said Captain Jason Neubauer, head of the Coast Guard investigation.

The Titan, a small submersible of about 6.5 meters in length operated by a private company, submerged on June 18 to observe the remains of the Titanic and was due to surface after seven hours but contact with it was lost when it was still two had not elapsed.

A rescue operation was then launched to try to save the passengers of the submersible, which supposedly had air reserves for about four days.

But the teams found that the ship suffered a “catastrophic implosion” in which the five men died instantly.

The remains of the Titan, found on the seabed about 500 meters from the Titanic’s wreck and almost 4,000 meters deep, were brought ashore Wednesday at St. John’s, Newfoundland, in Canada.

A US Coast Guard ship will take them to a US port, where they will be analyzed by investigators.
