(ANSA) – ROME, JUNE 12 – “It’s a miraculous salvation. In January, no one thought that Verona could keep their category. The team, the boys, the staff always had the strength to believe in it: it was the key to being able to take such a path. We didn’t give up even when they gave us up for doomed, it’s a group with great moral strength”. Thus Marco Zaffaroni, coach of Hellas Verona and architect of the salvation achieved yesterday in the play-off against Spezia, guest of Radio Anch’io Sport on Rai Radio 1. Game of the turning point? “Certainly the first two after the break, the draw against Turin and the victory against Cremonese. Given the standings we had, they were two games that we couldn’t miss, the gap from the others would have become enormous. Those two results convinced us that salvation was possible”.
Future Zaffaroni? “I don’t want to be diplomatic, but they’ve been crazy months from the point of view of work and tension, we haven’t had a second to think about what will be. After a few days of rest, then we’ll also talk about this topic”.
“When I arrived on 3 December – recalls the Verona coach – I found young players with great desire and a close-knit technical staff who were already doing an exceptional job, despite the fact that the results didn’t arrive. During the break we also did a great job from from a physical point of view, decisive for the run-up. Before this season, Verona had three exceptional years. This year they had a somewhat similar start, the comforting thing is that there is a hard core. look out for very interesting youngsters such as Sulemana, Coppola, Terracciano, Doig or the revelation Hien, who looks like a veteran but is only born in 1999. There are many young prospects on whom the club can count”. Closing with a question on the symbol of Verona: “If I have to name a name, I would say Darko Lazovic, but I can’t fail to mention Faraoni and Veloso: all guys who have been there for a long time, they are part of the historic group, they care a lot about Verona.
