FIBA – With a view to the next World Cup, Vincent Collet has compiled a list of 12 players, playing the card of stability around his captains.
Not too much of a surprise in the selection of theFrench team for the World Cup 2023. On France 3, Vincent Collet has thus compiled a list of 12 names for the competition which will take place in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines (August 25 – September 10).
Obviously, we find there the announced and long-standing innkeepers of this selection, namely Rudy Gobert, Evan Fournier, Nicolas Batum or nando de coloaccompanied by obvious choices, such as Guerschon Yabusele, Elie Okobo, Terry Tarpey et Moustapha Fall.
The last four places, more undecided, finally go to Frank Ntilikina, Sylvain Francisco, Mathias Lessort et Yakub Ouattara. This means that elements like Killian Hayes, Andrew Albicy, Vincent Poirier, Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot or Théo Maledon are left out by Vincent Collet, one year from the Paris Olympics.
Five training partners have however been retained by the tricolor coach: Joël Ayayi (G-League), Hugo Benitez (JL Bourg), Ousmane Dieng (Thunder), Jaylen Hoard (Hapoël Tel-Aviv) and Bodian Massa (JL Bourg) .
Regarding the absence of Victor Wembanyama, Vincent Collet explained: “We tried [de le faire venir], but there are many issues. As a reminder, at the World Cup, France will be in Pool H in Jakarta (Indonesia) with Canada, Latvia and Lebanon. If she finishes in one of the first two places, she will then cross with the group of Spain and Brazil in the second round, to hope to reach the quarter-finals…
In preparation, the Blues will face (in order) Tunisia, Montenegro, Venezuela, Lithuania (twice), Japan and finally Australia, between July 31 and August 20 (in Pau, Montpellier, Orleans, Vilnius and Tokyo).
