Yannick Hanfmann at the Mallorca Championships on Monday
The 6:2 and 6:1 against Pedro Cachin belies the fact that in the opening game at the Malloca Championships there were also chances for the Argentinian loser to get his opponent’s serve. This was explained by the naturally very satisfied winner Yannick Hanfmann after his entry-level success at the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Santa Ponsa.
Hanfmann has thus played a duel with defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas. It will be the first at ATP level, in 2017 the two faced each other in qualifying for the Wimbledon tournament. Tsitsipas won 7: 6 (5) and 7: 6 (5) – and in the years that followed established himself at the top of the world. But Yannick Hanfmann is having a strong year in 2023 and is currently in 48th place in the rankings.
Tsitsipas last successful in Mallorca in 2022
Tsitsipas has been training in Mallorca for a few days, before that the Greek had made a detour to Wimbledon, where he hit a few balls with girlfriend Paula Badosa, which was very popular with the public. In Mallorca, the 24-year-old should be fully focused again: After all, last year’s tournament victory was his last.
In any case, Yannick Hanfmann is hoping for an evening match against Stefanos Tsitsipas. Even if the man from Karlsruhe said in the winner’s interview after the game against Cachin that the high temperatures would actually help concentration. After all, you don’t want to spend too much time on the court unnecessarily.
Here is the individual tableau of the Mallorca Championships
