Tour de France 2023: 16th stage NOW in the live ticker
Curious start: There is some confusion at the start, both Welsford and Edmondson are late and only roll off the ramp with a pat on the back. Apparently there are some timing issues at launch. Hopefully that settles down later.
Time intervals of the starters: The time intervals between the drivers vary, by the way, at the beginning the drivers start with a one-minute difference, gradually this then increases over 1:30 minutes to a two-minute difference for the top drivers. This is to prevent the drivers from catching up or seeing each other in the fight for overall victory.
The race begins: At 1:05 p.m. sharp, the race begins with the first driver. Mørkøv from Team Soudal Quick-Step rolls off the ramp and opens the day.
Before we begin: Before we get started, let’s take a quick look at today’s schedule. The first to start the race at 1:05 p.m. is Michael Morkov, last in the overall standings and thus holder of the unofficial Lanterne rouge award. Phil Bauhaus is the first German to start in sixth place. As 15th in the overall classification, Emanuel Buchmann is currently the best-placed German, who will start at 4:32 p.m. The two superstars start at 16:58 (Pogacar) and 17:00 (Vingegaard). Shortly after half past five, all drivers should have reached the finish line.
Before starting: Today’s time trial is a demanding one, the classic specialists in the fight against the clock probably don’t get their money’s worth. This is due to the Cote de Domancy at kilometer 18.9, the mountain in the second category is 9.4 percent steep over 2.5 kilometers. Even after that, it’s a steady, slightly uphill climb to the finish line. We can look forward to Ciccone and Powless fighting for the mountain jersey, they will certainly try to get this ranking. The intermediate times are in Passy Chef-Lieu at kilometer 7.1 and in Domancy at kilometer 16.1, plus of course at the top of the Cote de Domancy.
Before we start: Before we get into today’s stage, let’s take a quick look back at the last stage on Sunday. The Alps took a lot out of the riders, in the end Wout Poels had the best legs and won out of a group on the Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc hilltop finish. There were no changes in the overall rankings, Pogacar and Vingegaard crossed the line at the same time. From a German perspective, Jai Hindley from the Bora-hansgrohe team has lost some ground and is now fifth. Maybe he can make up some time today.
Before the start: After the difficult stages in the Alps and yesterday’s rest day, the Tour de France continues with the individual time trial. Furthermore, Jonas Vingegaard leads by a hair’s breadth in front of his rival Tadej Pogacar. Will there be a preliminary decision in the overall classification at the Tour de France today?
Before the start: The individual time trial is on Tuesday for the professional cyclists. The 22.4 kilometer route runs from Passy to Combloux.
Before starting: Hello and welcome to the live ticker of the 16th stage of the Tour de France. It starts at 1:05 p.m.
