SAN FRANCISCO DE MACORÍS.- With a massive participation of young female basketball athletes from the Duarte, Sánchez Ramírez and Monseñor Nouel provinces, a basketball clinic was held under the general coordination of the Yunilsa Gutiérrez Basketball Development League, whose President is former athlete Yoli Sánchez and Yunilsa Gutiérrez is her coach, with the collaboration of the Duarte Province Sports Union directed by Professor William Hernández.
The clinic was given by the captain of the Dominican Republic women’s national basketball team Johanna Morton and Alejandra de la Fuente who is the President of the Atabey Foundation and in her days as an athlete, was the Spanish national team and professional player who were accompanied by Willy Soriano from the technical staff of the Atabey Foundation.
The activity took place at the San Martín de Porres Club where the girls fully enjoyed the teachings of these personalities from the wonderful world of sports and especially basketball.
Jesús Ovalle and Amaury Acosta, leaders and coaches of Cotuí and Maimón, the Mayor of San Francisco Don Siquió Ng, Sonia María, councilor of San Francisco, Fabio Rojas general manager of the San Francisco Indians, Óscar García President of the Duarte Basketball Association, Pablo Mora of the Taekwondo Association, Abelardo Peña of the Children’s Time Foundation, Pedro Sánchez, sports director of the San Francisco City Council, Félix Suárez, owner of Copicentro Profesional, Leonel Celestino, president of Club San Martín and Alejandro Romano, former basketball athlete, among other personalities.
In the activity, two separate awards were given to Johanna Morton and Alejandra de la Fuente for their sports careers and solidarity shown through the Atabey Foundation in the interest of promoting healthy sports practice and cultivating moral and spiritual values among youth athletes.
