Battalion 1944: A Failed Promise of World War II Glory Leads to Massive Refunds for Backers

Battalion 1944 is a game set in World War II, which, since its announcement on Kickstarter, was expected to bring back the “glory days” lived by those who enjoyed titles like Medal of Honor. Campaign on that platform that had the goal of raising $130,000 dollars, reaching more than triple, but now nobody plays it and it will start giving refunds.

Decision made by the studio behind the game called Bulkhead Interactive, after many ups and downs that fans have seen as disappointments, including promises to release it on console that never happened, in addition to these users, who have played it since its launch on May 2019, they have been constantly complaining that Battalion has been abandoned by its developers.

Only 4 people play it

During 2022, Bulkhead the studio announced a partnership with Square Enix, relaunching the game on Steam under the name Battalion: Legacy, also officially announcing that the promised console editions would never see the light of day. Title that as we indicated, no one plays and it is not an exaggeration, since according to SteamDB, it has only 4 players at the time of writing this note.

And during Tuesday, July 11, the study published a surprise offer of massive reimbursement for all the backers of Battalion 1944 on Kickstarter, which was informed to them by means of an email. In this, Bulkhead advises that those who want their money donated to the campaign to be returned must respond to a survey within 30 days. Money that after that month of data collection, they will begin to receive as refunds in their PayPal accounts three months from now.

In a video posted on its YouTube channel, the studio states: “Today we are announcing that we will be taking the unusual step of refunding ALL Kickstarter backers, regardless of their level of commitment,” adding that they hope players will view this gesture “as a commitment to our vision of community-driven game development and our dedication to our players.”
