Belgian Cyclist Steff Cras Forced to Withdraw from Tour de France Due to Fan Incident

End of Tour de France for Steff Cras. The Belgian of TotalEnergies crashed just six kilometers from the finish with Simon Yates and Mikel Landa, among others. Cras was taken to hospital after which his team released a medical update: “Steff has several bruises to his elbow and hip, but fortunately no fractures.”

Yet it is the end of the Tour for the rider who started the stage to Limoges in thirteenth place in the general classification. After the stage, he announced on Twitter how his fall was caused. “If a spectator walks more than a meter up the road and then doesn’t pull over when the peloton approaches, you better stay at home. You have no respect for the riders. I hope you feel guilty. I now have to leave the Tour thanks to you’, Cras addresses the person in question.

The Belgian rider also shared a photo of the spectator in question on Instagram. “Taking a picture is so important,” he added cynically.

The president of the riders’ union, Adam Hansen, responded to the same Twitter message not much later. “It’s a shame when things like this happen. Please fans, when you stand on the road, you are on a race track,” he said.

Simon Yates can continue in the Tour de France

Simon Yates was also involved in that crash. The Brit from Jayco-AlUla finished the stage, but was left with an injury to his pelvis. He is being monitored by his team’s medical staff, but is expected to start in the ninth stage. Bahrain Victorious saw leaders Pello Bilbao (crash with Cavendish) and Mikel Landa (crash with Yates and co) crash, but both men can continue their way on Sunday.
