Benfica has still not forgotten Santiago Gimenez. The Portuguese top club is seriously considering that it will say goodbye to Gonçalo Ramos, who in turn seems to be leaving for the Premier League. According to Record, Giménez is seen as the main candidate to succeed the Portuguese striker.

Not thirty or forty, but fifty million euros Feyenoord wants this summer for Giménez. According to the Portuguese newspaper, the Rotterdammers aim high, hoping to scare off interested clubs. Earlier it came out that Tottenham Hotspur sees Gimenez as an ideal replacement for Harry Kane, who is nominated to leave for Bayern Munich. As a result, Benfica seems to have to hurry if it wants to remove the 22-year-old striker from Rotterdam.

According to English media, Tottenham Hotspur would be willing to make an offer of thirty million euros to release Giménez from De Kuip. That offer will probably be a lot higher once Kane has actually left London. If Benfica wants to have any chance, it will have to bet higher than Tottenham Hotspur. Especially considering that Lazio, AC Milan and Atlético Madrid are still in the race for the striker’s signature.

After Orkun Kökcü and Fredrik Aursnes, Giménez can become the third former Feyenoord player in the service of Benfica. Where the Norwegian midfielder made the switch for 13 million euros in 2022, Benfica paid 25 million euros for Kökcü’s services this summer. Should Benfica actually pay fifty million euros for Giménez, the Mexican striker will become the most expensive player of all time in Benfica’s history in one fell swoop. That title is now still in the name of Enzo Fernández, who came over from River Plate for 44.3 million euros in the summer of 2022.
