Pop singer Britney Spears has filed a complaint with police, claiming she was punched in the face by a security guard of basketball player Victor Wembanyama in Las Vegas on Wednesday night.
According to TMZ, which first reported the story, Spears, 41, spotted Wembanyama, a 19-year-old French basketball player and one of the most anticipated rookies of the upcoming NBA season, at around 8:30 a.m. local time at the Catch Restaurant at the Aria Hotel . (Rolling Stone and US Weekly have each independently confirmed that the incident took place.)
Spears, who was having dinner with her husband Sam Asghari and two others, is said to have approached Wembanyama at the restaurant and patted him on the shoulder, asking for a photo together.

Spears told police that San Antonio Spurs director of team security Damian Smith executed the backhand attack Poisonous singer, her glasses fell off and she fell to the ground.

Wembanyama was picked by Spurs last month as the team’s first overall pick.
Smith is said to have subsequently apologized to Spears at their table. Spears accepted the apology, but later filed a police report with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) for assault.
“Around 11 p.m. on July 5, 2023, LVMPD officers responded to a property in the 3700 block of Las Vegas Boulevard in connection with a battery investigation,” police said in a statement Thursday. “The incident was documented in a police report and no arrests or subpoenas were made. No further details will be disclosed at this time.”

None of the parties involved in the incident, including Spears and Wembanyama, have commented publicly on the alleged altercation.
It’s unclear if Spears is filing criminal charges against Smith.
Wembanyama, currently the NBA’s tallest active player at an impressive 7’1″, will make his pro debut this Friday during the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
Spears, whose 13-year conservatory tenure ended in November 2021, has recently reconnected with her mother after years of drama surrounding Spears’ allegations of abuse by her family. In June 2022, she married Asghari, a 29-year-old model and fitness trainer.
