BVB’s U23s are back on the pitch. Two professionals and one U19 player also attended the start of training.

Dortmund – The U23 from Borussia Dortmund starts again. Training started on Wednesday (June 28) for BVB’s second representative. There were three surprises at the start.

Three surprises at the start of training for BVB’s U23s

Two professionals were among the 30 BVB players: Julien Duranville and Mateu Morey. The Belgian winger and Spain full-back are already preparing for the first-team training session on 5 July.

Duranville (17) switched from RSC Anderlecht to BVB last winter, but was initially injured. He had only made it into coach Edin Terzic’s squad for the season finale: he hadn’t played a minute on matchday 33, and then made his debut on matchday 34.

Morey was completely unused to the pros last season. A serious knee injury forced him to sit out. The 23-year-old played his last game for the BVB professionals on May 1, 2021.

Morey’s BVB contract expires – question mark at Rijkhoff

Morey’s contract expires in the summer of 2024. He now wants to recommend himself for a contract extension, otherwise there is a risk of farewell: Morey could also leave Borussia Dortmund this summer.

In addition to Duranville and Morey, Julian Rijkhoff also entered the training ground on Wednesday. According to the club, the 18-year-old youngster has a “long-term” relationship with BVB, but there is a question mark over his future.

The future of the BVB talent seemed to have been clarified after some back and forth, but the media followed suit and wrote that it was unclear whether Rijkhoff would play for black and yellow next season or leave Westphalia. The player sees himself ready for the pros, BVB still sees the striker with the youngsters because the club bosses have identified physical deficits in him. The right-footed player could even appear in the U19s next season.

Rijkhoff: BVB wants to train young strikers first

BVB plans, it is said, to let Rijkhoff train in the U23s and then to train the pros at the start of training. The coming weeks should show how things will continue afterwards (all BVB transfer news at RUHR24).
