Can Vingegaard withstand more pressure? The form and the team are excellent, but Pogačar is stronger, claims the cyclist

The 26-year-old Danish competitor already surprised with second place at the Tour de France 2021. A year later, he shared the leader’s role with the Slovenian star Primož Roglič in the Jumbo-Visma team, but after his falls and subsequent withdrawal, the Dutch team was only riding on him.

And Vingegaard carried his efforts to a stunning triumph. “He is a great climber. He surprised me a lot last year. He has an extremely strong team at his disposal. Jumbo-Visma will dominate the Tour and will have a great advantage in that,” former Czech road driver Petr Vakoč said in the Studio TOUR program on Sport.cz.

This time he will miss Roglič in the team. “That is an important factor. Roglič can miss him on important hills, when he helped him last year, on the other hand, the team will sacrifice itself only for Vingegaard from the first stage,” Sport.cz cycling editor Matěj Vybíral pointed out.

In addition, the Danish mountaineer showed great form at the eight-day Critérium du Dauphiné race in June, where he won supremely. “He is in phenomenal form. He was a class better than the other opponents. He will definitely be the top favorite and it seems that the only competitor who can threaten him is Pogačar,” noted Vakoč.

However, in comparison of these two stars of contemporary cycling, he has more faith in the Slovenian rider. “I’m not sure Jonas can take it mentally. In my opinion, Pogačar has an advantage over him in terms of mental endurance,” claimed Vakoč. “In addition, it is said that it is much easier to win the Tour for the first time than to defend the championship. And that is precisely because of the mental point of view,” he added.
