“By the way: I’ve been with my girlfriend for less than a year, but in that time I’ve already gained 15 kilos. Love goes through the stomach, doesn’t it?” In an interview with HUMO, CD&V chairman Sammy Mahdi makes a striking confession. “In any case, I have already been instructed to go to Basic-Fit more often (laughs).”
In a reaction to the newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, he does not hide his extra kilos. “As a bachelor, I didn’t have a good diet,” he explains. According to him, there were “too few balanced meals”, but thanks to his girlfriend there are now. “I even get messages on my smartphone: You had breakfast, didn’t you? I am being watched.”
Mahdi only fears that he “has not only learned good things, but also kept the bad ones.” “That bag of chips still opens for TV, and I still stop at McDonald’s.” However, the CD&V member is not dissatisfied with those extra kilos. “At 86 kilos for a height of 1.88 meters, my BMI is still good”. So he wants to stay at his current weight. “Because I was too tight. But I understood from my girlfriend between the lines that I can move a little more. The kilos may remain, but the belly fat may become muscle mass.”
