In the tenth round of the Serie C Baseball championship, Chieti won with the Tritons in what was almost the last resort for the Theatines. With an excellent performance, the Abruzzese got the better of the Taranto players, who gave their all for five innings, only to give way too easily to the Abruzzese.
Taranto took the field finding Pacente and Chirulli among the starters, fielding Carlos Gordon as pitcher. However, Gordon himself started badly by giving his opponents free bases, punished by Leyva’s hit for the first point in Chieti. In their turn of offense, the rossoblu brought Ruiz and Lara on base, but Gordon was out on the fly before Chirulli remained at the plate after giving the illusion of a home run, with a foul ball by a few centimeters.
In the second and third innings, the defenses of the two teams ruled the game: only zeros were marked on the scoreboard. In the fourth inning, Gordon lost control of his pitching, giving away many bases to his opponents, also thanks to a defensive error by Pacente. Chieti scored and Motolese called left-footed Gabriel Mucavero on the mound, who removed the chestnuts from the fire, closing the inning without further points.
As has often happened this year, the lower part of the Taranto lineup played the charge: Mucavero first and Patruno after scored two points thanks to Scarnera, author of a valid serve. On the base there would have been the points for the tie and the lead, but the guns Ruiz and Gordon remained entangled in D’Alonzo’s throws, a 3-2 run for Chieti at the end of the quarter.
The pitcher from Taranto Mucavero continued to do his job well, but the defense didn’t help him. Indeed, two errors made Chieti score two points with two outs. The Tritons felt the pinch, and the expert team from Abruzzo sensed the opportunity.
In the sixth inning, Chieti scored 4 points by placing a distance of 7 lengths to then drop the ace by fielding Oscar Tucci on the mound, a player of absolute level, coming from an American college and with several Serie A championships behind him, as well as the World Cup and Europeans with the national teams of each category.
In the seventh inning, the rossoblu showed their pride and with three valid hits they managed to find the run that dragged the game into the ninth inning. It was the first point the formidable Oscar Tucci conceded this year. The match, however, was now on ice and ended with the final 12-3 for Chieti.
“We paid for our inexperience in playing this type of match – declared chairman Maggio after the match -, but it must be said that Chieti won with great merit. For us it is another step in the growth path, which in any case sees us in the running for a place in the playoffs “.
Thanks to this victory, Chieti has reached Taranto in first place in Group O with only two days remaining to the end of the regular season. In the other game of the day, the Bari Warriors got the better of the Teramo Bears, but both teams are out of the playoff race.
In the next round, the Tritons will have to contend with Bari, within the friendly walls of the Comunale di Torricella. As usual, derbies always herald great competition and unpredictable scores. But the road that leads to the post-season also passes through here, and the Tritons must find themselves and fight until the end
