Côte d’Ivoire Defeats Tunisia in AFROCAN 2023 Quarter-Finals

The local basketball Elephants A’ of Côte d’Ivoire defeated this Thursday, July 13, 2023, at the Arena Do Kilamba in Luanda, Tunisia (66-69) for the match counting for the quarter-finals of AFROCAN 2023.

A very important victory which opens the door to the semi-finals for the Ivorians who had not recorded any victory during their campaign in 2019.

For this match Santis Fofana and his teammates managed to win two quarters, the first two (8-16 and 18-23). The Elephants faltered in the 3rd and 4th quarters, losing 9 points (24-15) and one point (16-15) respectively.

The late awakening of the Eagles of Carthage will have allowed the elephants to finish the match with just three points in advance.

Côte d’Ivoire began its campaign on July 8 with a defeat against Kenya (62-52) before recovering against Gabon (66-52) then against Mali (72-58) and today the Tunisia.

The Ivorians will face Rwanda for a place in the final.

FIBA Afrocan is a quadrennial competition for African players playing on the continent.
