Now double winner of the Tour de France, Jonas Vingegaard notably mentioned his rivalry with Tadej Pogacar and his desire to shine again on the Grande Boucle, during an interview with L’Equipe.

After having created the surprise by winning the Tour de France in 2022, Jonas Vingegaard confirmed all his talent in 2023. Once again in the fight with Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), the Dane had to work hard to get out of it this year against the Slovenian and put his name on the list of winners of the Grande Boucle for a second time. Yellow jersey since the 6th stage, the leader of the Jumbo-Visma notably made the difference during the time trial (16th stage) then the next day between Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc and Courchevel (17th stage). Before that, Pogacar had tried everything to change the situation. “It’s good for cycling to have rivalries like that. (…) To be honest, it wouldn’t have been as exciting as it was without Tadej. So I like running against him, it’s good for the Tour de France, for the bike, and for us “, finally recognized Vingegaard, about this battle with the Slovenian.

“The Tour is by far the biggest Tour for me”

« Nos performances ? It must be genetic. I don’t know how to explain it. No one stays quiet in bed doing nothing, we all do pretty much the same training, the same preparation. So it must be something Tadej and I were born with. And then, of course, we do our best to exploit our potential. (…) Next year ? I’m almost certain to come back, yes. We haven’t talked about it at all, but the way I envision it, I’d like to do it again. And win again of course yes, later explained the Dane, during an interview with L’Equipe on Sunday. (…) The Tour is by far the biggest Tour for me. Next year, I will therefore still not do the Giro I think. I’m not saying that I will never do it, but we will see that in the future. Priority at the Tour de France. »
