Rumors have been circulating for several weeks that Nyck de Vries is in danger of losing his seat at Scuderia AlphaTauri, due to the disappointing results. After ten races in the 2023 season, it has become clear that the racing stable from Faenza has the worst car this year and the Dutchman has not yet scored any points. Daniel Ricciardo is tipped by many as the ideal replacement for De Vries.
The 28-year-old from Uitwellingerga has not yet finished in the top ten. He was fourteenth twice before failing to finish in Australia and Azerbaijan due to crashes. His best result to date is twelfth on the streets of Monaco. Due to Logan Sargeant’s eleventh finishing position in the race at Silverstone last Sunday, De Vries is last in the standings.

It tickles again
Ricciardo, who raced for McLaren until last season, but returned to Red Bull Racing last winter as a reserve driver, told SpeedCity on SiriusXM Radio that he had had a long enough break from behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car: “I looking forward to riding again,” the Australian is quoted by RACER as saying. The eight-time Grand Prix winner will compete in the Pirelli test at Silverstone this week. “My break has now lasted long enough and it’s tickling in a positive way again. It’s obviously a phenomenal car and I’m delighted to feel that here, especially on such a high-speed track.”

You never know
“I do miss it, but it’s all fine,” continued a positive Ricciardo on the starting grid ahead of the British Grand Prix. “I’m just letting it all come to me and I’m confident that at some point I’ll be back on the grid [als coureur] stand. Of course you can’t be 100% sure, but I’m confident it will happen again one day.” Asked about a seat at AlphaTauri for 2024: “You never know, you never know… I’m ready for it.”
