The Danube Titans are currently fighting for second place in the table in the Landesliga Ost, behind the overwhelming Schwechat Blue Bats II. After a recent win against the Stockerau Cubs II, the chances are not bad either, but the most recent game day was on Sunday a major setback for the cooperation team from Tulln and Klosterneuburg.
First of all, you caught yourself a defeat against the Woodquarter Red Devils, the bottom of the table. The Red Devils started like crazy with six points in the first inning. At first, however, the Danube titans still had the right answer ready. The offensive scored six runs themselves and thus equalized.
A pitcher change at the Titans slowed the Red Devils’ attack and the game remained on the brink for a long time. Only shortly before the end of the game did the tail lights get two points, with which they decided the game in their favor. Final score 6:8.
Marked by the heat and the shock of the unexpected defeat, the Titans tried to get their game back in the second game of the day against the Vienna Lawnmowers. Stephan Unger was pitcher on the mound again this time, but the Titans still couldn’t find the form of the last few days. The Lawnmowers were looking for revenge after losing their first game to the Titans.
The game stayed open through the first innings, but the Lawnmowers always had a narrow lead. The Titans went 2-4 into the fifth inning. But suddenly all the dams broke and the defense vanished into thin air. One mistake followed the next and now bad luck with injuries came into play. Two players had to be substituted, including Joseph Bailey, who received a flyball in the face. The Lawnmowers clearly won the game in this phase and finally left the field as the clear winner with 12:2.
If the Titans are still looking to secure second place in the table, there won’t be much time to digest the losses. The return games against the Devils and the Stock City Cubs II are already waiting next Saturday. Two wins are needed here, otherwise you run the risk of slipping into no man’s land in the narrow table and maybe even having to tremble for a place in the play-offs.
