ENGLEWOOD — The head coach of the Denver Broncos, Sean Paytonhas said he doesn’t want his team to look in the rearview mirror, but he took a long look himself during an interview with USA Today Sports that was published Thursday.
In the mood to spread out, Payton described the work of Nathaniel Hackett and his group with Broncos in 2022 as “one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL“, and said that there were “20 dirty hands” around the quarterback Russell Wilson during the worst season of his career, one that included just 16 touchdown passes and 55 sacks to lead the league.

Payton has supported Wilson throughout the offseason and offering more structure and a better “vision” on offense will help the 12-year veteran get his form back. He told USA Today that Wilson “He has a lot left in the tank,” adding:

“Oh man, there’s so much dirt around that. There’s 20 dirty hands, for what was allowed, tolerated in the mal— therapy rooms, the boardrooms. The offense. I don’t know a Hackett. Many people have land in their hands. It wasn’t just Russell. It wasn’t just a damper. He still has it. This s— that he ran into a wall? Wow, they couldn’t even call a play. They were 29th in the league in pre-cross penalties on both sides of the ball.
“That was not his fault,” he added. Payton. “It was the parents who allowed it. That’s not to incriminate him, but to incriminate the head coach, the general manager, the president and everyone else who saw it happen. Now, a quarterback having an office and having a place to study video is normal. But, all those things are magnified when you’re losing And all the other things, I’ve never heard of that. We’re not doing that.”
When asked by Dianna Russini about ESPN If you wish to clarify any of your comments, Payton he said he is just rooting for his players, who he believes deserved better.
