Detroit Pistons Strengthen Second Unit with Acquisition of Monte Morris from Washington

Detroit has known how to fish in a troubled river at the start of the market. After getting Joe Harris, taking advantage of the fact that the Nets wanted to empty his salary space, they have also managed to incorporate Monte Morris, who, according to Adrian Wojnarowski, a journalist for ESPNcomes to Michigan from Washington in exchange for a second round.

This generates a Traded Player Exception to the Wizards worth 9.8 million, which is Morris’s salary for the 23-24 season, while the Pistons thus fill their salary space. This addition allows them to improve their second unit with a substitute point guard with many guarantees, who will be able to give Cade Cunningham quality breaks and help the project start to look up after several years at the bottom of the table.

Morris comes from averaging 10.3 points and 5.3 assists per game in his time in Washington, where he arrived in the trade that ended with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in the Nuggets. It was precisely in Denver where the point guard emerged as a very solvent and serious player, especially when, with Jamal Murray still healthy, he was in charge of commanding the men on the bench. Hopefully that will be his role again in the Pistons, who have a backcourt very young with Cunningham and Ivey (and even Hayes) in which he could serve as a counterpoint.
