In her 2nd Tour de France Femmes, Eva van Agt was eager to show herself. In the 2nd stage she had escaped with 2 compatriots, on her way to the foot of the last climb. But then things went wrong.
A sudden downpour had made the descent very slippery. Women fell here and there. Van Agt was also unable to keep himself upright in the leading group. She ended up in the guardrail in a nasty way.
Images to hold your heart, but Jumbo-Visma quickly announced that the worst need not be feared. “Fortunately we got to Eva quickly,” says race coach Carmen Small.
“She was conscious at the time. Eva was taken to hospital by ambulance, under the supervision of our team doctor and a team leader. She will be examined further there.” The examination revealed that she had a concussion.
Eva van Agt, 26, is the granddaughter of former Dutch Prime Minister Dries van Agt, who is also known as a great cycling enthusiast.
With Fien Delbaere we also lost a first Belgian. The Israel-Premier Tech rider had to get off sick.
