Formula 1: Pierre Gasly third in the sprint race at Spa-Francorchamps

On arrival, when stopping his car in the place allocated to third, alongside Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen, still winner, Pierre Gasly relished. While Alpine has been in great difficulty for several weeks, with in particular an accident, very involuntary, between the two pilots of the team Esteban Ocon and Gasly, this podium is a real resurrection. The joy of the whole team around the Frenchman came to confirm this feeling.

In the rain, the Rouennais’ performance was impressive. Starting in sixth position on the starting grid, he took advantage of the tricky conditions to take over Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz and secure a place on the podium. The six points won are also a great reward for the team, which is only sixth in the constructors’ standings, a far cry from the initial ambitions.

“A thought for Antoine”

“It’s an incredible feeling, savored Pierre Gasly on arrival. I’m incredibly happy to finish in the top three, especially here at Spa, which feels like a home race for us. It was very difficult conditions but I’m very happy to have been able to keep my position until the end. It’s really special to do that here, I also have a thought for Anthoine (Hubert, his friend who died during a Formula 2 race in 2019 on the Belgian circuit). I’m also very happy for the team because it hasn’t been the quietest start to the season for us. »

This Sunday, the drivers will participate in the main race. Charles Leclerc will start in pole position (Verstappen, winner of the qualifications, was demoted to 6th place for having changed the gearbox). Pierre Gasly is 12th on the starting grid.
