Formula E enters the Guinness World Record: on the London weekend, where the category contests the last double ePrix of the season which will award the Drivers’ and Constructors’ world title, an electric single-seater in fact obtained the world record for the fastest speed at covered. The driver to boast the record is the British Jake Hughes, who races with McLaren and challenged Lucas Di Grassi (Mahindra) by pushing the car to the maximum speed ever, at least for an indoor circuit like that of London’s ExCeL, protagonist of the last two rounds of the championship. In the end, the official Guinness Book of Records judge certified a record top speed of 218.71 km/h.

NEW RECORD A remarkable result, which allowed Formula E to beat the previous record – set in February 2021 with 165.2 km/h – by over 50 km/h. The machine used? Not a normal Gen3 used in the championship, but a modified single-seater and therefore called “GenBeta”. The electric racing car used to enter the Guinness World Record boasts some aerodynamic features and above all a 400 kW battery (compared to the 350 kW of the Gen3) and with the activation of the front engine to have all-wheel drive and therefore guarantee more thrust and grip under acceleration. Speaking of grip on the ground, Hughes (and his challenger Di Grassi) had the new Hankook iON Race tires at their disposal, even softer than those used in the race.
