German Tennis Players Advance to Round of 16 in Hamburg and Warsaw Tournaments

Jule Niemeier (Dortmund) also made it into the round of 16 against Ella Seidel (Hamburg), who was the only German to drop out in the first round.

All good things come in fours: tennis pro Maximilian Marterer made it into the round of 16 for the first time at the ATP tournament in Hamburg’s Rothenbaum. The 28-year-old from Nuremberg defeated Rudolf Molleker from Berlin 7: 6 (7: 2), 6: 2 in his first round duel on Tuesday.

For Marterer it is the fourth participation in the Hanseatic city, so far he had never been able to win his opening match. Most recently, the Franconian had proven his improvement in form with a third round entry in Wimbledon after qualifying.

Marterer’s next opponent in Hamburg could be Olympic champion Alexander Zverev. The 26-year-old local hero must first win his game against Alex Molcan (Slovakia) on Tuesday.

Maria moves into the next round

Tatjana Maria is also in the round of 16. She reached the round of 16 at the WTA tournament in Warsaw.

The 2022 Wimbledon semi-finalist defeated Serbia’s Natalija Stevanovic 6-3, 6-1 in the Polish capital on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old’s next opponent is Clara Tauson from Denmark. Laura Siegemund (Metzingen) had previously won her first round duel in Warsaw.

After Monday’s success against Maja Chwalinska from Poland (6: 4, 6: 1), the Swabian now meets Zhu Lin from China.
