I veto Russians in Basketball | The Euroleague maintains the ban on Russian teams for the next season

The Euroleague has approved this Tuesday the extension of the suspension of Russian teams in their competitions in the 2023-2024 season, in addition to also ratifying the format and calendar of the competition, according to a statement.

“The Shareholders’ Meeting of Commercial Assets of the Euroleague, meeting this Tuesdayhas extended the suspension of the Federation teams Russian of the Euroleague competitions for the 2023-2024 season due to the war conflict between the Russian country and Ukraine”, read the official note of the competition.

In addition, the proposals for the format and calendar of the Euroleague competitions for the 2023-2024 season have been approved, which as a novelty will have a ‘play-in’ that will be played by the seventh to the tenth place in the regular phase, in a single match and with the best ranked team exercising at home.

A format change also affects the Eurocupwhere only the first six classified in each group will access the playoffs, as well as the one that goes directly to the quarterfinals of the first two classified in each group.

Finally, The appointment of Dejan Bodiroga as president of the Euroleague was ratified and of Paulius Montiejunas as general director of the competitionas well as Daniel Hierrezuelo from Malaga as director of arbitration for the competitions organized by the Euroleague.
