World number one Iga Swiatek has confirmed she expects to do well at Wimbledon after suffering food poisoning in Bad Homburg. The day before yesterday, Swiatek announced that she was withdrawing from her semi-final match in Bad Homburg after having “spent a restless night” and suffering from suspected food poisoning. On Saturday, Swiatek held her press conference before -tournament, where she dismissed concerns about her health.
“I’m doing well. I had a very bad night. We took measurements with my physical trainer in the morning. They weren’t very good because I barely slept. I had a stomach ache, but I don’t know if there was a problem or not.
Later in the day I felt good so I’m sure everything will be fine,” Swiatek said in his pre-tournament press conference at Wimbledon.
Swiatek is aiming for a good run at Wimbledon.
Even though Swiatek’s run in Bad Homburg ended unhappily, the silver lining is that the Pole still reached her first semi-final on grass at the German tournament.
By winning three matches in Bad Homburg and remaining undefeated, Swiatek has definitely gained in confidence on the grass. Today, she says the best players can play on all surfaces and it’s her way of saying very openly that she is aiming for the Wimbledon title.”Of course, I deeply believe that the best players are able to play on all surfaces.
I want to become that kind of player who can play well on grass and feel comfortable there. I do my best to work on my skills. Last year I feel like we did a good job with my coach in terms of quality and efficiency.
This year I feel like we’ve had more time to focus on the basics and to play matches. If I had more time to play on grass, I’m pretty sure I would be able to play better and better,” said Swiatek, who faces Zhu Lin in the first round of Wimbledon.
