A new event is added to the WBSC bouquet: from 29 September to 1 October 2023 it will be held in the stadium Kukulcan Alamo Of Yucatanin Mexicothe inaugural edition of the WBSC Baseball Champions League (BCL), a new international club competition sanctioned by the collaboration between the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) and the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) and announced today during a press conference held in Mexico City.
Hosting the inaugural edition of the BCL will be i lioness of yucatan who will participate as champions of the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) 2022 together with the 2022 champions of the American Association (Fargo-Moorheads RedHawks), National Baseball Series (Sorrels of Granma) and Colombian Professional Baseball League (Caimans of Barranquilla).
The tournament consists of seven matches over four days and will be played in a round-robin format. The top two in each group advance to the finals.
“This exciting new competition, with the addition of more elite regional events and the World Finals in the coming years, would not have been made possible without the shared vision and support of the various leagues, stakeholders and respective leaders baseball,” the WBSC President said in a video message Riccardo Fraccari.
