LaMelo Ball guaranteed his continuity in the Hornets on the first day of the market, and he also did it in a big way. The base agreed to a maximum extension that will make him receive 205 million dollars (it could even be 260 if he is All-NBA this year) between 2024 and 2029, and in his first press conference after the news he commented on several of the factors that have led to it, starting with sports.
“We are at a point where we feel that we are growing together,” said the point guard. “It’s a good starting point and I think we’re headed in the right direction.”
However, Ball acknowledged that basketball reasons were not the only ones that have led him to sign the contract. The player has assured that he feels comfortable in Charlotte and with the life he leads there, which has also had weight when it comes to prolonging his relationship with the franchise.
“During my years here, I have always been fine. If the basketball part isn’t going the way you’d like, you always aspire to be able to live your life and have fun. You want to have a good life and in Charlotte I have it, so this seems like a good decision to me. As a child I was taught that pleasure consisted of having your next meal guaranteed and a place to sleep. In that sense, what I have is a blessing. I only have to worry about playing basketball, I have no other problems.
