Lee So-hee and Baek Ha-na Crowned Monthly MVPs at Women’s Sports Awards

Lee So-hee (29, Incheon International Airport) and Baek Ha-na (22, MG Saemaul Geumgo), a rising duo of Korean badminton women’s doubles, were named the Monthly Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the Women’s Sports Awards.

The two recently won the Best Player Award (MVP) in June at the 2023 MBN Women’s Sports Awards held at the National Athletes’ Village in Jincheon, Chungcheongbuk-do. On the 18th of last month, she was recognized for her contribution to winning the women’s doubles championship at the 2023 Indonesia Open Badminton Championships.

In particular, Lee So-hee and Baek Ha-na started working together in October of last year. In just eight months, he rose to second place in the world rankings. He won his third championship, including the German Open in March and the Malaysian Masters in May.

In 15 competitions, he reached the final 10 times and showed off his perfect breathing. Lee So-hee and Baek Ha-na reached the semifinals 14 times in 15 competitions.

Right after the awards ceremony, Lee So-hee and Baek Ha-na said, “It’s really an honor to receive such a good award.” In addition, Lee So-hee said, “Hangzhou Asian Games and Paris Olympics gold medal is my goal,” and said, “I will prepare well so as not to get hurt as much as possible in the process of going there.” “I will prepare harder,” he promised.

The MBN Women’s Sports Grand Prize judging committee explained, “The Indonesia Open is more meaningful as it is a special event in the International Badminton Federation (BWF) Super 1000 Series, which will settle the first half of this year.” Then, he revealed the reason for the MVP selection, saying, “I highly appreciated the fact that we lifted the 3rd trophy of the season and rose to 2nd place in the world rankings 8 months after the partnership was formed.”

The MBN Women’s Sports Award was established in 2012 to promote women’s sports and encourage Korean women’s sports people. Players who have made Korean women’s sports shine are selected as monthly MVPs and awarded, and at the end of the year, players who have contributed to raising the status of Korean women’s sports for a year are invited to hold a comprehensive awards ceremony in December.
