Luis Fernandez Excludes Mbappé from Top 3 French Players, Raises Questions of Bias

Former PSG manager Luis Fernandez believes that Kylian Mbappé is not even one of the three best French players.

Does Luis Fernandez have a grudge against the Parisians and everything related to this club which he has trained twice in the past? This is what one might think with regard to his verdict concerning the Top 3 of the best French players that he submitted to the magazine France Football.

Fernandez doesn’t like Mbappé

Called to vote as the winner of this award in 1985, Fernandez cited Karim Benzema as France’s number 1. And behind, he successively placed Christopher Nkunku and Mike Maignan. Bondy’s crack therefore did not find favor in his eyes.

This is not the first time that Fernandez has failed to mention Mbappé in his Top 3. For the 2021 edition, he had already placed him behind Kanté, Coman and Maignan. You actually have to go back to 2019 to see the lollipop coach recognize the talent of the French genius. When the latter had been crowned for the 2nd time, he had put him in 2nd place in his ranking, just behind Karim Benzema.

Note that Fernandez was not the only one to fail to place Mbappé in his Top 3 this year. It is the same for Papin and Amoros. But, for these two, it can be understood since they are two “Marseillais”. The 1984 European champion had no excuse to snub the PSG star.
