Mexican Isaac Alarcón Poised to Make Impact on Dallas Cowboys Defense, Says Coordinator Dan Quinn

The Mexican Isaac Alarcón, who turned 25 on July 27, has enough talent to become a fundamental player in the defense of the Dallas Cowboys, defensive coordinator Dan Quinn said Friday.

“Isaac can really make his mark on this defense, I like the length and strength he has,” Quinn said at the end of team practice.

He praised the physical qualities of Alarcón, born in Monterrey (Nuevo León), who measures 2.01 meters and weighs 140 kilograms.

“He’s a more athletic guy than your typical defensive tackle. We know that it will take us some time to develop all his instincts, but in a player like that it is definitely worth the time invested, ”explained the coach.

Three years on the practice squad

Isaac Alarcón came to the Dallas Cowboys as an offensive tackle in 2020 via the NFL’s “International Player Pathway Program”, a program that seeks talent for the league who come outside the borders of the United States.

In three seasons, the player has remained on the reserve team waiting for an opportunity to appear on the official roster.

In last year’s preseason he started as a starter in the last game of the Texan franchise, despite his good performance he did not make the cut of 53 players and again he stayed in the practice squad.

change of position

In early 2023, Quinn asked Alarcón to strengthen his defensive line.

For the change, the former player of the Tecnológico de Monterrey Borregos in collegiate football in Mexico had to drop from 147 to 140 kilograms with the aim of gaining mobility and speed to overcome the rival line and hurt the quarterback.

“This has been new to me, but the Cowboys have given me an opportunity and I’m not going to waste it; It’s definitely more fun chasing quarterbacks,” Alarcón said last June.

The Mexican has earned praise from Dan Quinn and Cowboys Head Coach Mike McCarthy; It is his turn to confirm that he can enter the court on August 29, when the 53 players who will face the 2023 season will be announced.
