The archery delegation delivered its first two gold medals to Mexico this Monday at the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, on a day in which gold medals also fell in diving, fencing, equestrian, bowling and badminton.

Expectations were high for the tricolor archers and they responded with a couple of crowns in the team recurve modality.

The women’s team won the first of the day with a resounding victory over Colombia.

The cast made up of Aída Román, Alejandra Valencia and Ángela Ruiz did not give up a single set in the final to beat the Colombians Maira Sepúlveda, Ana María Rendón and Valentina Contreras 6-0.

Previously, they advanced by bye in the quarterfinal stage and eliminated Puerto Rico in the semifinals (6-0).

Minutes later, the men’s team was not far behind and also defeated Colombia in the final instance. This time, Carlos Rojas, Caleb Urbina and Matías Grande defeated the hat-trick made up of Jorge Enríquez, Daniel Betancur and Santiago Arcilla 5-1.

On their way to the gold medal, the Mexicans beat the Dominican Republic (6-0) and Venezuela (5-3).

In the individual compound, Miguel Becerra, Sebastián García, Ana Sofía Hernández, Andrea Becerra and Dafne Quintero advanced to the quarterfinals in their respective categories.

Diving, one of the sports where Mexico is the protagonist on a world scale, yesterday added its second gold medal on the third day of activities.

Diego Balleza was in charge of getting to the top of the podium in the 10-meter platform. The Monterrey native and Olympian in Tokyo 2020 ended his participation with a score of 436.20, well above his closest pursuers; the Colombian Sebastián Villa (413.30) and the Cuban Carlos Ramos (421.70).

His compatriot Germán Sánchez, a two-time Olympic Games medalist, finished in sixth position.

Meanwhile, Carolina Mendoza and Abril Navarro took bronze in the synchronized three-meter springboard. The tricolor duo took the lead in their first two jumps and lost second place in the last run with one of their lowest performances. They finished with 244.14 units, compared to the 254.10 obtained by the Colombians Daniela Zapata and Viviana Uribe and the 244.50 obtained by the Cubans Prisis Randish and Anisley García.

It was also the second medal for Mendoza; on Saturday he achieved silver in the one-meter springboard.

The fencing, for its part, continued with the harvest of metals. On this occasion, Diego Cervantes was crowned in individual foil, the same test in which Denisse Hernández was proclaimed champion the day before.

In the dispute for the title, the Baja Californian was superior to Cris-tian Porras, from Centro Caribe Sports (Guatemala). The score ended 15-8 in favor of Cervantes. His countryman Tommaso Archilei lost in the semifinal, although he tied the copper one.

In equestrian, Carlos Molina, Jorge Canedo, Alberto Sánchez and Juan Martín del Campo contributed gold to the medal table in the team jump modality.

One more golden color came through badminton, where the mixed team was crowned in the contest after defeating Centro Caribe Sports 3-1.

In bowling, Sandra Góngora, Liliana Lomeli and Miriam Zetter won second place in the women’s trio; only seven units separated the Aztecs from beating the Colombian triplet, which recorded 3912 units.

The Mexican quintet, made up of a base of five elements that qualified for the 2023 Basketball World Cup, basted its third consecutive victory after beating Cuba 85-65 and today will play the pass to the final.

Those led by Gustavo Quintero started the tournament beating Puerto Rico and El Salvador.

Today they will look for their pass to the semifinal against Costa Rica.

In field hockey, the women’s representative will fight for the gold medal against Cuba after beating the Dominican Republic 2-1.

The water polo team finished with a perfect pace of three wins and also settled in the next round. The Centro Caribe Sports (Guatemala) was the new victim of the national water polo players, who overwhelmed the Guatemalans 23-3.
