More than 15,000 people marched for LGBTIQ+ Pride; They ask for equal rights in Panama

This July 1, 2023, Panama Pride held the celebration of the great LGBTIQ+ Pride March that this year the main streets of the old town in Panama City, with the participation of more than 15 thousand peoplewho marched with the purpose of celebrating diversity, promoting equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community and having as their main slogan the fight for equal civil marriage.

Along the route lived a festive and peaceful atmospherecharacterized by music and joy, where the participants, including activists, embassies, various organizations that work for LGBTIQ+ rights, inclusive companies and brands, family members and community allies, askingacceptance, equality, respect and tolerance.

The march had as Ambassador Ken Di´Doll and as standard-bearers Alvaro Levy y Ken Gilbergwho since 2014 legalized the recognition of their family, which the Panamanian State denies, after the Supreme Court of Justice last March ruled against equal marriage.

This year we managed to celebrate a full month of activities where more than 3 thousand people attended, we created safe spaces for the entire LGBTIQ+ population and their allies. Today we close with a massive march and a festival of height as our community deservesindicated Franklyn Robinsonpresident of Panama Pride.

For the Panama Pride platform, education is the fundamental pillar of this movement. This year they added 50 hours of training in forums, workshops and conversations, focused on education, health and human rightsspaces to dialogue, share experiences and promote solidarity, always being inclusive.

They also performed lFirst Fundraising Charity Gala where they recognized prominent activists and launched the pro LGBTIQ+ Coalition, they also made alliances with the Gorgas Institute, APLAFA, the JW Marriott chain where they held the educational week, they also achieved the week of Diverse Cinema & Art which featured the projection of films, shorts and documentaries in The Apple Panama.

The closing festival “United We Are Stronger”, began with a village of more than 30 entrepreneurs and included the sale of plants, food, accessories, handicrafts, clothing, and pet adoption. And it had the participation of more than 95 artists on stage, including DJs, presenters, dancers and singers.

Panama Pride had more than 85 employees and volunteers, who donated their time and talent, forming a synergy of professionals, where everyone had the same opportunity to excel.
