Or Noha Akugue in Hamburg

As her wondrous dream journey continued so easily, Noma Noha Akugue looked up at the sky and quietly enjoyed: The local hero sensationally reached the final at the WTA tournament in Rothenbaum in Hamburg and wanted to continue her dreams into the night.

“I’ll definitely sleep well because I’m pretty exhausted,” said the 19-year-old from Reinbek on the outskirts of the Hanseatic city after her surprise coup. She only made it into the main draw via wild card, defeated Diana Schneider (Russia) 6:3, 6:3 in the semi-finals and could hardly believe her luck.

Not finished yet

“A week ago I didn’t even know if I would even get a wildcard. Now, of course, I hope that I can play my best tennis in the final,” said Noha Akugue, who relaxed the biggest win of her young career in the evening wanted to enjoy – “according to the press and physio”.

The young woman only seemed nervous for a few minutes at her premiere on Center Court, a quick break to make it 2-1 changed that. Noha Akugue played braver, repeatedly throwing stop balls into her game. Schneider found no antidote and, moreover, made far too many double faults.

Now in the final against Arantxa Rus

The number 207 in the world rankings was also the dominant player in the second set. In tight situations, Noha Akugue mostly kept the overview, after 78 minutes she converted her second match point.

In the final on Saturday (1 p.m.) the left-hander meets Arantxa Rus from the Netherlands. The 32-year-old, number seven on the seed list, won her semi-final after 2:27 hours against Australian qualifier Daria Saville 2:6, 6:3, 6:1.
