Once the 27-date Professional League is over, the Professional League Cup will begin, the second Primera tournament of 2023. The format comprises two zones of 14 teams, in which they will face each other against each other during 13 dates. In addition, there will be an additional interzonal match, adding a total of 14 matches, which will count for the average and the general table. The four best teams in each group will advance to the final stage, which includes the quarterfinals, semifinals and the grand final for the title.
The Professional League Cup will start on August 20 with the group stages, where the teams will face each other in two zones of 14 teams. Then, the playoffs will take place on December 3 and 10, and the grand finale is scheduled for December 16. The closing of the season will be on December 23, just before the Christmas celebration, with the Champions Trophy. If a tiebreaker is necessary, it will take place on December 20.
The zones of the League Cup.
The two zones of the League Cup
Zone A: Argentinos, Arsenal, Atlético Tucumán, Banfield, Barracas Central, Colón, Gimnasia LP, Huracán, Independiente, Instituto, River, Rosario Central, Talleres and Vélez.
Zone B: Belgrano, Boca, Central Córdoba, Defense and Justice, Students, Godoy Cruz, Lanús, Newell’s, Platense, Racing, San Lorenzo, Sarmiento, Tigre and Unión.
The analysis of each zone
Zone A: Although it has interesting crosses between teams that fought in the Professional League, such as River (1st), Talleres (2nd), Rosario Central (8th) and Argentinos (10th), the highlights would be, above everything, in the fight not to descend. Fairly, Banfield (30 points in the annual table), Gimnasia (30), Independiente (28), Vélez (27), Huracán (25), Colón (25) and Arsenal (22), all teams committed to the red zone, make up this cluster. It will be nothing.
Zone B: It is possibly the group with the greatest parity at the top of the table. Here are San Lorenzo (3rd), Lanús (4th), Estudiantes (5th), Defense (6th), Boca (7th) and Godoy Cruz (9th), so there will be several applicant teams that will be left out of the 4th. of end. This will also be a challenge for those who are fighting for relegation, because, despite not having many direct rivals, they will have to get around better-caliber teams. They are Tigre (34 points in the annual table), Platense (34), Sarmiento (30), Unión (30) and Central Córdoba (29).
