Red Star Belgrade Bolsters Squad with Eight New Signings: Including Brazilian Point Guard Yago Mateus dos Santos

Red Star Belgrade starts the week as it closed last season, with more reinforcements for a squad that has nothing to do with last season. There are already eight signings in the last nine days. The last one, the Brazilian point guard Yago Mateus dos Santos, who has just played in the NBA Summer League with the Chicago Bulls and who last season won the Basket Bundesliga with Ratiopharm Ulm. With this addition they close a powerful rotation in the point guard position, in which Yago will have to fight for every minute.

Signed for the next three seasons, he will share a position with two former NBA newcomers such as Shabazz Napier and veteran Milos Teodosic, who last season played in the Italian league with Olimpia Milano and Virtus Bologna, respectively. Adam Hanga and Rokas Giedraitis have joined as forwards from the ACB league, plus the return of Dejan Davidovac, and as interiors Mike Tobey and Marko Simonovic.

In this Summer League, Yago has played four games with the Bulls, in which he has averaged 8.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 19 minutes of play. In the United States, he has drawn attention for his passes and his ability to score from three, with some shots that demonstrate his mastery of long distance (44% accuracy).

With this reinforcement, Red Star closes a rotation of 15 high-level players for Dusko Ivanovic, who will have the mission of making the team competitive again in the Euroleague. After this week of movements and having already said goodbye to the Serbian fans on social networks, it will be a matter of time before the signing of Facu Campazzo by Real Madrid becomes official.
